The Generals: Punchline
19/05/06 || Lord K Philipson
At the latest gig we did with God Among Insects, our official photographer Henrik visited us with the company of some friend(s). One of these friends walked up to me while I was smoking crack, asked if he could touch my penis and then handed me this demo, asking if I could review it for GD. I explained the situation: I’m not too fucken keen on men touching my penis (if it’s not Peter Forsberg doing it that is) but we could at least be friends. Maybe. I also told him that I usually despise rock-music and therefor they might end up being slaughtered by yours truly. He was fine with that. On all accounts. I guess he’ll be even more fine after reading the left-out slaughtering that is this review.
The Generals actually rock. I hate bands who rock, lemme get that out of the fucken way, if I didn’t already. But these fellas do rock it all right, for some reason. It might be becoz they are friends with Henrik and he and his girl both wore their shirt. It might be becoz they are from Karlstad, the home of Vomitory. It might be becoz they are flaming homosexuals and know nothing about GD. Whatever it is, I definitely like this shit for what it is. Rock and fucken roll, with a few elements of more basic metal-riffing incorporated into their stuff. Not shabby at all actually. Polish crack-whores are worse than this, and I think that’s a compliment.
Vocalist Hednar sports a decent voice, much suitable for the style they are doing. He doesn’t sound like Lemmy for shit, but still I get some weird Lemmy-vibes from him. Trust me, I’m as clueless as you are with that equation. The much screamier backingvocals (I think they belong to him anyways) by Martin adds a nice flavor to the rock-stew.
Don’t get me wrong here, it’s not likely that I’ll spin this fucken cd at high volume all that often, after all I don’t fucken dig rock’n’roll. That’s not going to change with the experience of The Generals, but credit is due where credit is due, and The Generals do all fine with what they have created here.
4 songs for the party, if you will.
4 songs of catchy rock’n’roll.
Not more, not less. I’d even go as far as saying I would wear a free shirt of this band if they sent it after reading this review. They can’t possibly miss that hint…
